About Griffith Observatory

An iconic Los Angeles landmark.

Located on the south slope of Mount Hollywood, Griffith Observatory is an Art Deco landmark that houses an observatory, exhibit hall, and planetarium. Since its opening in 1935 over 7 million people are estimated to have peered through the 12-inch (30.5 cm) Zeiss refractor, making it the most utilised telescope in the world. The observatory's beautiful interior, iconic architecture and extraordinary surroundings have also made it the perfect setting for countless films, TV shows, video games, music videos, concerts and more. With the unique combination of its scientific attractions and views of the Los Angeles Basin, Griffith Observatory and its surroundings are a must-see for any visitor to L.A.
