The Colosseum in Rome, also known as the Flavian Amphitheatre, is one of the most iconic landmarks of ancient Rome and a marvel of Roman engineering. Completed in 80 AD under Emperor Titus, it was the largest amphitheater ever built and could hold up to 50,000 spectators. The Colosseum hosted gladiatorial contests, animal hunts, and public spectacles, reflecting the grandeur and brutality of Roman entertainment. Despite centuries of earthquakes, looting, and weathering, it remains a symbol of Rome’s rich history and attracts millions of visitors each year. Today, it stands as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, offering a glimpse into the past glory of the Roman Empire. The Colosseum is the first stop on the tour. Please note that access to the Colosseum arena floor or underground passages is not included.
The Roman Forum
The Roman Forum, located in the heart of ancient Rome, was the political, religious, and social center of the city for centuries. Surrounded by important government buildings, temples, and markets, it was a bustling hub where public speeches, elections, and commercial activities took place. The Forum housed notable structures such as the Temple of Saturn, the Arch of Titus, and the Curia, where the Roman Senate convened. Over time, as the Roman Empire declined, the site fell into ruin, but its remnants still offer a fascinating glimpse into the grandeur of ancient Rome. Today, the Roman Forum is one of the city's most significant archaeological sites, attracting visitors from around the world eager to walk among the ruins of a civilization that shaped history.
Palatine Hill
Palatine Hill, one of the seven hills of Rome, is considered the birthplace of the city and a site of great historical significance. According to legend, it was here that Romulus founded Rome in 753 BC. Over time, the hill became the favored residence of emperors and aristocrats, with grand palaces such as the Domus Augustana and the House of Livia offering stunning views of the city. The Palatine was also home to the Farnese Gardens, one of the first botanical gardens in Europe. Today, the ruins of its opulent structures provide a fascinating insight into the power and luxury of ancient Rome. As part of the larger archaeological complex that includes the Colosseum and the Roman Forum, Palatine Hill remains a must-visit site for history enthusiasts exploring the Eternal City.
